Daily Lemonade #7

makingof-studio-03955
Hey there my dearies! I’m writing you on this lovely Sunday just before taking my sparkly bike out for a spin (yes, remember, my love is a bicyclemakeovergod) to go enjoy this spring weather! Promises are made to be kept, and I am here today to tell you a little about daytoday life at Lemonade Studio after a crazy week, particularly because of piñatas. Lisa was telling you in the last article about our Piñata Factory for Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, at the studio I’m officially known as the Piñata Queen, so wellknown that it’s written on my business cards (I know what you’re wondering, the wonderful little cards were made at Moo!) And I didn’t let my reputation down for this incredible project since we’ve successfully made 18 piñatas in one and a half weeks. I don’t know if I’m ready to tell you all my craft secrets yet but I’ll at least tell you a little bit about this incredible project.

When Sonia by asked us to imagine a set design for their new collection’s windows, my eye’s lit up at the idea that we potentially could do everything in piñatas. Hold on there, not any type of piñata, my mission was to master the piñata, to make a sort of “deluxe” version!! It was a huge challenge since, let’s be honest, a piñata is nothing other than cardboard and a lot of crepe paper. Despite this, I am big fan. It’s incredible how something made with scraps, and filled with all sorts of goodies, can get a reaction out of the young and old. We used quite a bit of cardboard to make the basic form (thanks to Lisa for moving which allowed me to reuse lots of basic materials) and to cover them we chose high quality, beautiful paper, with vivid colors, some survival blankets, and most importantly, some jeans! For the first time, I used fabric and not paper to cover them, and I think that was definitely one of the best ideas in the world that we had there. The form and texture of the jeans gave the piñatas this incredible look and I think there are a lot of other fabrics that could be used, something to think about... Check out the makingof video, we’ll be back after the break!

Ah, the music (thanks to Musicalist), the colors... I admit that I’m almost sad that the project is over, it was cool to spend days in the studio almost only working on making these beauties. And believe me, over this period the Lemonade Studio has known some dark construction days, multicolored fringe covering the floor, cardboard and doublesided tape lying around, going home every evening to discover that my shoes were coated in fringes of jeans, survival blankets... and I still find some in my pockets, days later! I think that it’s undoubtedly the ‘force of the piñata’ that is with me, that these 18 creations were surely just as sad as me to part ways. Despite it all, I take comfort in knowing that they’re happy in their store windows and that the saleswomen must look at them as tenderly as I did. My darlings, if you’re reading this, don’t worry, I’ll come by soon to see you!
makingof-studio-03873   You might not know it, but piñatas are not our only interest, we also have an unconditional love for little paper creations. Since we made the 2015 Calendar, I can’t wait for new projects to create new things, new challenges. This week it’s Nike who let us make the new thing we’re into, thanks to their new “Cherry Blossom” sneakers that you saw in the last Happy Friday! The brand asked us to create a little set for the press presentation of the new collection. As soon as the piñatas left the nest, the flowermaking began!   makingof-studio-03925
We made flower cubicles that boxin the shoes, ready to be photographed in it’s little case. I started cutting out the many little white flowers thanks to our incredible Michel machine, we then used watercolors to give them a delicate pink center. We thought about multiple ways to make the branches and we stumbled upon a completely unexpected technique: a wire base that we covered with... hold on tight... masking tape. The idea was to then spray paint them to even out the color, but like a happy little accident, I had chosen a masking tape with a black and white motif (mustache and Eiffel Tower) that was absolutely awful (I promise I won’t tell you the brand), and BAM, incredible, rolled upon itself the result was absolutely stunning like a marbled/birch effect for all the branches. And there you go, these are the sorts of little things that make our day at the Studio!
makingof-studio-03932-copie
There you have it, this week the Lemonade Studio was really productive! After more than two years by Lisa’s side, I still am amazed at the amount of work that we’re able to accomplish some days (believe me, weekends are really impressive). We arrived in a hurry, with our cherry branches ready to be put into place, and in several minutes everything was perfectly assembled, and I think that at that moment we got lucky: we realized that the window/set design installations that week went without a hiccup. I’m sure that you know what I’m talking about, that moment that rarely every happens, that moment where you haven’t made a single mistake in your cutouts, you didn’t forget the tape on the desk before leaving, that moment when everything comes together perfectly. A moment of luck, I tell you! So I’d like to solemnly thank everyone who helped us with these projects, thank you for wonderful time full of creativity!
  DSC03952
And since sometimes I think that at the Lemonade Studio we are afraid of boredom, what better than to finish the week with a little workshop? This one will go down with Farrow & Ball in a beautiful Parisian gallery for the launch of their new colors. Since the Ikea Workshop, we’ve discovered a love for deco workshops, and this time we’ve decided to make a poster with spots like at a shrink’s, and all of it covered with positive mantras. Yesterday was a ‘mantra mission’ at Farrow & Ball! Just a friendly reminder that if you too would like to participate in our workshops, I suggest you signup for our newsletter so you don’t miss out! This said, I’m off on my bike. Hugs & kisses, yours truly!

Happy Friday #84

happy-friday-84-make-my-lemonade-11
Happy Friday my darlings! Well, it’s done. My hair has been cut, I can now feel a little breeze on my neck. But I must admit that I already want it shorter, a little less ‘sensible’... I don’t really know what’s going on but recently my hair has been flat, smooth, and boring, while I dream of having beachy waves and huge curls. It looked amazing when I left Fred’s expert hands, but I must confess I’m hopeless with a diffuser and I have zero patience with a curling iron, so I think we’re in a transitional phase here. It’s freshened up my look and I already feel like I carry myself differently with bare shoulders.
happy-friday-84-make-my-lemonade-9
I think it’s crazy, this neverending cycle of capillary dissatisfaction. While flipping through a magazine or looking at pictures, my heart may skip a beat for a longhaired redhead and I’ll only think about that do for months and then all of a sudden, I’ll change my mind and then only swear by long platinum blonde locks. I don’t know, I’d like to find peace with my hair, I assure you. So I’m going on a quest for the perfect inspiration for my hair type, easy to take care of daytoday, that nicely grows back without going through an awkward phase, but is above all feminine and fun to stylize with accessories! And you know what? I’m going to find it! 2016 will be the year of the ‘Hair Grail’!
  happy-friday-84-make-my-lemonade-nike
In addition to loosing 15 centimeters of hair this week, I was contacted by Nike to create a small set design for the new launch of their cherry blossom sneakers. My idea was to imagine a look inspired by their collection’s printed motifs and recreate the floral patterns with our little watercolored cherry branches. And I found the perfect opportunity to go shoot some pictures with Olitax in a magical place, the Water Lily rooms at the Musée de l’Orangerie. I’ve always been fascinated by a giant poster of the Water Lilies in my parent’s living room, so to see these water lilies in real life blew me away, as if I fell right into Monet’s work. Its monumental size is breathtaking. For those that have never been, I suggest you go early in the morning, that way you’ll have Claude all to yourself (for the most part). Obviously, you know how much I love pink, so I decided to run with it. Dressed head to toe in pink with a pair of Nikes, I think sneakers are surefire way to tone down a risky outfit that might at first seem over the top...

This week I’m wearing Agnès B. coveralls (please note that they’re not transparent!), a prototype Wear Lemonade hat (coming soon, fingers crossed), a navy blue Tara Jarmon coat (that I borrowed from Charlotte just for the shoot), striped gray socks from Monoprix (navy blue would have been too much) and a pair of Cherry Blossom Air Max of course (that are also available below in Cortez)!

Sending you hugs and kisses, see you tomorrow. To those that can’t access pictures on the website, not to worry. You just need to clear your browser’s cache (if you’re on a Mac, press “command + Shift+R”). Everything should be reset today, but please let us know about any bugs! Thank you for your kind help! Hugs and kisses, see you this weekend for a behindthescenes ‘making of’!

PINATA FACTORY

MMLpinata-199
Hello my little darlings! I’m here to tell you the latest news about Lemonade Studio’s big project. A few weeks ago, the brand Sonia By Sonia Rykiel asked us to make some fun and festive window displaysfor their summer collection... After thinking long and hard and finding their collection absolutely delightful, we came up with a bunch of Piñatas. This morning, raining and dreary, we carefully set up our “Piñatas Factory” at 6 rue de Grenelle. We didn’t let the weather get us down, we decided that our goal would be to brighten others’ days, and you know what, as I’m writing, a ray of sunshine tickles my keyboard...

This Sunday, Charlotte S. will post a new Daily Lemonade to tell to you about her new responsibilities as “piñata queen”. I swear it’s on her business card! Simoné is putting the finishing touches on a little behindthescenes video of the piñata construction and installation. Anyhow, Charlotte did a great job and I’m a huge fan of the denim piñatas. I’m sure if you’re good, she’ll show you how to make them... pastel paper, jeans, and survival blankets, it’s a little bit chaotic at the studio but well worth it. To capture the moment, we’ve asked Pauline Darley (still our favorite) to shoot a few pictures with the lovely Claire in Sonia By Sonia Rykiel... I hope you’ll like it.
  MMLpinata-50
This Thursday, March 10th, it’s Open House Day at the Sonia By boutique, at 6 rue de Grenelle, where you can see our displays from 11am to 6pm. Saturday March 19th through Saturday March 26th, you can drop by the store to snap a few pictures of the decorations and post a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #soniapinatafactory and tag @soniabysoniarykiel. A drawing will take place and the winner gets a 400€ gift card to spend in the Grenelle store! Oh yeah! Hugs and kisses, I can’t wait to read what Charlotte has to say about the behindthescenes of this collaborative project!

MEET ANAIS OLMER FROM CHEZ BOGATO[:]

chez-bogato-make-my-lemonade-23
For my 25th birthday, three years ago, I got the best present ever: a cake from Chez Bogato shaped like my very first book, Make My Party. It was heavenly. Forget about boring icing, my rose and raspberry cake was finished off with a very fine almond paste. If I close my eyes I can still see it... the decadence, as flavorful as it was beautiful. Now thanks to Make My Lemonade, I’m lucky to often get pastries made by chefs from brands celebrating their opening launch and I still find Chez Bogato’s work fun, colorful, and delicious. Chez Bogato, for me, sets the bar as far as treats go... You know about my sweet tooth for colorful cakes, remember our paper cake calendar? In that article I’d said that “I’ve been wanting to partner up with a pastry shop for a while to recreate on their entire menu in paper but the opportunity never came up or at least not yet”. A couple hours later, with the help of my friend Lili’s magic wand, I got an email from Anaïs Olmer from Chez Bogato. I literally jumped for joy! We met and I asked Anaïs Olmer to collaborate on my new cake baking book, Make My Birthday that’ll be released in a couple months. Talking with Anaïs and learning about her inspiring personal journey, I knew from the start she was perfect for the Good People section. I think she represents Girl Power perfectly this March 8th, which we’ve christened Heroine Day...
  • Career change question: From graphic design to pastries, isn’t that a big difference and a lot of paperwork?
Oh yes, it was a big change, there’s a huge difference between being a salaried employee and an entrepreneur. Each day and project varies at an agency. In baking, it’s a neverending cycle, but I try to bring my passion for graphic design and color into my cakes. As an entrepreneur, you’re free to make your own rules, to take on new projects and to reinvent yourself everyday. You’re involved with everything from the interior design of the boutique, the accounting, and the psychological side of managing your teams! I really like the reallife artisanal aspect of baking. You can’t work ahead of time, everything is urgent in order to guarantee freshness, that’s the exciting part of our job. In 2009, when I founded Chez Bogato, there weren’t a lot of things for creative bakeries, no fun molds or tools, it was a real challenge to break away from classic, traditional pastries. Today, there are many more choices, with bakeries multiplying and artsy decorations more common, but most importantly I keep flavor and the love of baking in mind, rather than the art of assembling it all. It must be beautiful and delicious.
  • What’s Next’ Question: Today a boutique, a lab, a bunch of special orders for brands, what are your next steps?
We’d like to continue organizing workshops for parents and kids, birthday workshops, and especially teambuilding activities, pushing the idea of the workshop to its limits! I have something particularly highquality in mind, far from regular, impersonal cooking classes. We’d also like to work on a global project, still offering decorations at the store but also proposing decoration help and set up on the big day, and why not develop Bogato brand products.

  • ‘Master Yoda’ Question: What are three pieces of advice for someone wanting to reconvert to a culinary profession ?
be very dynamic and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty draw inspiration from your surroundings
chez-bogato-make-my-lemonade-25
  •  ‘Experience’ Question: What’s your best tip as an entrepreneur?
My best weapon has without a doubt been my worryfree attitude, when it comes to my role as an entrepreneur. And not to give up when problems arise! To sum it up: face them!
  • Girl Power Question: What does female entrepreneurship mean to you?
I wasn’t planning on only working with girls. I also hadn’t thought of having to manage people when I started out. But it’s a fact, I only got female applicants! And I wanted to break the mold of the ‘chef tough on their employees’, I wanted to bring kindness and wellbeing to the kitchen. It’s true, we’re able to handle a hundred things all at once, that’s no doubt what brought out my maternal instincts and what I find in the women I work with (wonder women).
chez-bogato-make-my-lemonade-7
  •  “In Search of Lost Time” Question: what’s your first Proust Madeleine?
Passion fruit/chocolate ice cream and lemon/chocolate ice cream, an unlikely mix at first thought, but absolutely addictive.
  • ‘Throwback’ Question: What did you want to grow up to be?
A baker and veterinarian!

Happy Friday #83

happy-friday-make-my-lemonade-83-5
Happy Friday my darlings! Ah, this endofwinter light! I love it, the smell of spring time, it makes me so happy. I think it has something to do with the fact that this morning I finally had hot water in my new apartment (no need to go to the gym every day anymore!), and that I now live 500 meters from Lemonade Studio and that we have a NEW website!! Nothing but good news! Do you see that happy girl? Yep, that’s me! I’m so happy to be closer to the office and forget about the subway, to walk to work and I love the area around the Faubourg Saint Denis street, with it’s private courtyards and covered passageways. I’ve been looking for the opportunity to shoot a Happy Friday behind one of those doors for a while! I am truly ecstatic! I’d like to use this energy to literally move mountains or maybe start by building a kitchen...
  happy-friday-make-my-lemonade-83-4
I have a ton of ideas and I admit I’ve been holding back on posting while waiting for the new website. By the way, I wanted to let you know that we haven’t swapped yellow for pastel pink but for all the Pantone colors in the world, because we’re going to change as we please! This probably seems completely crazy, but a special week is coming up, especially since an article on “good people” comes out on the website Sunday! I met an amazingly inspiring business manager and I’m sure you’ll like her! I read quite a few of your comments asking for more articles on the theme of entrepreneurship. I really like this idea, it’s going to take some time, but I think I’d like to write more articles with interviews. And over the last open house days, a reader gave us the idea that it would be interesting to hear about the backgrounds of different Lemonade Studio people... but would you like that?

In other good news this week (that should make many of you happy), no, it’s not the return of Girls, nor the announcement that there’ll be a season two of Making a Murderer... but the comeback of the giant Georgia tote bag! I’ve been trying it out for months, it’s perfect for everything, picking up toys lying around, going to the beach (yeah, yeah, I’m getting a little carried away but I’m getting ready...). Today in addition to Wear Lemonade’s huge Georgia, I’m wearing chic Samsoe Samsoe overalls (oh, the Danish...), a glitter sweater with a bow from the adorable brand, Sister Jane, and a mustard colored Asos jacket. As for accessories, a beautiful Karuna Balloo flower and Shellys London shoes! Next week we’ll do an another Happy Friday with a new haircut!

NEW DESIGN

DSC03425
Here we are! Delivery scheduled for March 1st, it’s the 3rd, but that’s ok! Good things come to those who wait, and you know what, if the life of an entrepreneur taught me anything it’s that in real life things never go as planned, but always end up happening... I’m jumping for joy, I’m so glad, so happy, to see the website is in sync with the woman I’m becoming. Even if I loved the old design, I don’t know, I think that today I feel like I’m settling down for good. It’s more mature, like I was saying, clearer, and I’ve got the impression that it’s a fresh start for me and the studio, since all Make My Lemonade contributers will have their spot and can sign their articles, no matter how big or small, it’s the little things that make all the difference to me. You can also find out more about them by clicking here. And it’s also a fresh start for you, you’ll have a great page to comment, to write us, and of course for the sewing aficionados out there, you’ll have a “Community” page to talk, give advice, ask for tips and share your contagious passion to do things. I’d like to thank you again since all of this is possible because of you, for always being there and sending so much love our way! THANKS!
  DSC03453
This month the blog will also celebrate it’s 4th birthday, I’m not going to do a birthday post today, but looking back... wow! To tell you the truth, I’m quite moved to show you my baby today. I called on the talented people of l’Agence Colorz, who’ve already helped us develop the Wear Lemonade eshop. I showed them the things I liked and those that I didn’t and working with them has gone smoothly since the beginning. I feel that with this new design I’ve been given a gift, that I’m sharing with you too, for many new adventures to come! I was really nervous to turn over the art direction of the website to someone else but in the end I learned to let go and allow myself to be guided, because at the end of the day, I’m living/breathing Make My Lemonade 24/7, and I realized that at a certain point I wasn’t able to step back and judge the vibe we’re giving off. By letting Colorz propose their take on our lemony world, I fell in love, let’s make lemonade together again! Even if you know how I hate the word, I wanted to keep the structure of a “blog” which is simple to use and I don’t have the ambition nor the desire to do an online magazine. I wanted us to continue to navigate the website like we always have, with ease. Welcome my darlings! Go ahead and take it all in, please tell us what you think and let us know about any bugs, and don’t forget to clear your cache! Hugs and kisses, your devoted lemon.

WEAR LEMONADE #14 LENA DRESS DIY[:]

wearlemonade-patron-lena
Hello my darlings ! Thank you for Léna’s warm welcome! I can’t help but jump for joy to see you wearing it! There’s another thing that makes me jump for joy: the new website that’ll be online tomorrow! I know I talk about it so much but it’s really a revolution for us, a real evolution also to a website that’s more like us and that you can be a part of! There’s going to be a “community” page that’ll be your sewing forum, where you can post your questions and finished projects. So so exciting! The hope is that you can put in a word, give your own advice to other lemons as well as share your favorite things and addresses! Oh la la, can’t you feelthe excitement in the air? Anyways, today it’s Léna’s turn, the darling shirt dress, to be a doityourself (oh yes). You’ll see, nothing’s impossible but we wanted to to it with straight seams and “French” seams, to bump up the difficulty level, and above all to have a great finished product like one rarely finds in stores. If you’re comfortable with box pleats, cuffs and shirt collars, it’s not that hard but I won’t deny that it’s a sewing pattern a bit long to do so take your time (set aside a nice weekend at home) and it’ll be a piece of cake! Here’s a video to demonstrate, I hope you’ll like Léna as much as we do!
Here’s some useful info on this Léna:
  • You can buy the sewing pattern in its adorable packaging with instructions and the tag here, for 14,90 euros.
  • You can download the PDF version of the pattern for 2,99 now with the sewing booklet included! Go ahead and click on the number “2” on the product description for the page placement. The pattern is still printable on A4 and US letter formats.
  • The pattern’s difficulty level is: “this is gonna be intense”, but pleats will no longer be a mystery to you!
  • For this dress, the biggest sizes should plan on: using 2m70 of fabric from a bolt of fabric measuring 1m40 in width (classic width) or 2m50 for 1m10 fabric. A bit of thermobinding fabric and 15 small, covered buttons. We suggest you make this blouse with cotton veil, or with silk crepe and why not English embroidery and even lace for those feeling ambitious!
  • A friendly reminder, since it’s always good to note it here: in all the Wear Lemonade patterns, the value of sewing is included in the pattern and it’s one centimeter (except when it’s French seams, but don’t panic, its written in black on white on the pattern)!
  • And if you’re stuck in a sewing rut, don’t hesitate to leave a comment on the community page that’ll be online tomorrow!
wearlemonade-patron-lena-1
For all Parisians, this dress was made from a printed cotton unearthed at La Mercerie Fine, 25 Rue SaintSébastien, 75011 Paris, and the buttons were made at a sewing adjustment boutique in the Passage du Prado for just a few euros! And the icing on the cake is that for the purchase of a Léna pattern, with Sephora we’re giving away a small mascara to the first 150 orders! Don’t forget to share your finished creations on the social networks with the hashtag #wearlemonade. wearlemonade-patron-lena-2 Translated by Whitney Bolin[:]

WEAR LEMONADE #14 LA ROBE LÉNA

lisa_lena
Happy Monday to all! Monday is here, everything’s aokay. I’ve moved without a problem, the new website is being finetuned and Léna, the new Wear Lemonade dress is here. I think that I can say without hesitation: the planets have aligned and thanks to the lovely printed silk we’re all going to have a marvelous week. As I wrote on Saturday, this shirt dress is a great basic. It’s versatile, great for day wear with a pair of derby shoes and socks, you’ll be ready for any kind of job on earth and after 7 pm with a pair of heels and a good red lip you’ll be stunning. Oh yes, stunning my friends. I wanted it to be ambivalent a little like women, with its tomboy shirt collar and low waist. Mixed up with its little breast pockets and pleats in 100% silk, it’s an ode to elegance and femininity! And as a bonus, side pockets are hidden in the hollow pleats, making it oneofakind. You’ll see why I’m such a fan! It’s so light and airy, it’ll have you twirling for hours!
make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-wear-lemonade-6
Léna exists in“bleu de tes yeux surteint”, which gives it a ‘washed’ look, adding depth to the fabric. It has small covered buttons, 4 handy pockets and a little scoop neck that will make your neck look slender and sleek, satisfaction guaranteed. And it’s available in a “beau regard” or “false lashes” pattern that’s screenprinted on silk... In the makingof video I’ll show you how the pattern transitioned from paper to textile. This an exclusive motif, just like our scarves that you’ve gobbled up! These dresses are so practical, they can be worn all year long, buttonedup to the neck with a ribbon as an ascot, a good pair of tights and a nice soft vest, or with strappy sandals and a trusty jean jacket, showing off your sunkissed tan.
It’s easy to take care of this dress. Everyone makes a big deal out of 100% silk, but besides the highly recommended “hand wash, do not spin dry, let dry on hanger”, occasionally you can machine wash it... for real! But how you ask? Next time you wash your tights and intimates, simply turn it insideout and put it in a laundry bag for delicates. Wash it on the cold (or delicate) setting. Don’t forget to put the blue “de tes yeux” Léna dress with darks, the “beau regard” dress with whites/lights. Hang it up to dry on a hanger and as for ironing it, just use the steam from an iron, without actually touching the dress. It’ll smooth out like magic!
make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-wear-lemonade-7
Today’s also the launch of our little goodluck Belinda panties! Because besides being blueeyed, Belinda, is also a feelgood cotton pantie that’ll make your derriere nice and round thanks to its trompe l’œil elastic band and since I bet you already have a favorite pair that wouldn’t hurt to replace! “Entrepreneuse” is the little pantie that’ll get you started, or it’s the perfect gift for all your friends that want to take the plunge! “Good luck”, great for a meeting with a client or a first date... “High Five” for motivation to seize the day! Belinda’s are the panties that have that “je ne sais quoi” that’ll make you feel like can take on the world!

We’ve collaborated with the Lycée Professionnel des Métiers de la Mode Octave Feuillet for the embroidery on these little panties. Tiffany was kind enough to invite us to her embroidering class and show us their savoirfaire. We’d like to thank her for that, as well as her thoughtful students and Ms. Le Jallé. You can contact them via their website for more information on their courses and upcoming open house March 18th and 19th! Lycée Professionnel des Métiers de la Mode Octave Feuillet , 9 rue Octave Feuillet, 75016 Paris.

To sum it up : Everything is available on the Wear Lemonade website of course and for those who can’t get enough of DIY, the Lena sewing pattern is available tomorrow at 11 am! A big thanks to Pauline Darley for her photography, to Mademoiselle Mu for doing makeup and to Musicalist for the video’s music!

ATHENS’S TOP TEN[:]

12
Hello my darlings! As I am writing, the studio is bubbling with excitement to see you tonight! Here’s my last article on Athens! It’s a kind of special article, since it’s been awhile since I’ve wanted to do something like this! I hope that you’ll like it as much as I liked Athens! I’d like to thank Noémie, a readerturnedfriend that helped me navigate this city, and not miss out on anything! Obviously, this is about the top things to do, but please go ahead and add to the list in the comments! We stayed for three days (two nights) before returning to Paris... Going back was difficult because we loved this city, it was really a good idea to finish with Athens, going gradually back to urban life. I read in your comments on Instagram that you had mixed emotions about the city, but I loved it as much as Lisbon, it’s a little run down and frozen in time and I like that. I’ve rarely eaten so well, when you’re in love everything tastes better! If you’d like to read my first article on Santorini, here it is, for an article on Crete, it’s here, and as for the Facebook album with all the trip’s pictures, you can click here. Thanks to Noémie for her advice! Here are my top picks:
  1
History class on the Acropolis. As for number one, because I think it’s really cool: learn a bit of history! It gives me chills just to think about it, it’s obviously very crowded but the walk there and the area around it is neat.
  2
Have breakfast on the Grande Bretagne Hotel’s rooftop. I suggest you go have breakfast on the Grande Bretagne Hotel’s rooftop, or have a drink there at sunset, it has one of the best views of the city.
  4
Run 4000m in the first olympic stadium. As a gym teacher’s daughter, I couldn’t pass up on seeing the first olympic stadium of modern games to pay tribute to Pierre de Coubertin and his friends. There aren’t a lot of tourists, it’s huge and beautiful.

Watch the sunset on the Areopagus hill. Another great spot to watch the sunset, with a six pack in tow. Climb up the Areopagus hill and watch the show.
  7
Get lost in the little streets of Plaka. After getting comfy, once you’ve visited the ruins of the acropolis, get lost in the little streets around the Plaka neighborhood!
8
Go for a walk in the national park. If it’s really hot out, I suggest you visit the national park. Loving gardens, I really liked this one, a bit wild in some places and some shade won’t hurt!
  9
Eat ice cream made with greek yogurt. Enjoy a yogurt cone at any ice cream shop... we ate quite a few and all of them were great, but if you have a favorite address, let us know in the comments!
  10
Have a drink at the Six Dogs. As a lover of aperitifs, I think that this hidden bar was one of our best finds during the trip... I’ll leave it at that, I’m sure you’ll like mixing with the locals.
11
Go to the plein air theater. In the city, there are several plein air movie theaters, if you’re fortunate you might find an American movie, otherwise watch a Greek one and let yourself be lulled by their smooth accent...
  5
Get customised Melissinos sandals. Very touristy but it’s so chic to get some gladiator shoes custom made at Melissions! Like Jackie O’ and Audrey Hepburn!

HAPPY FRIDAY #82

happy-friday-82-10
My darlings! I’m on cloud nine! And speaking of cumuli, I’ve also had another cloud, a little gray one, over my head these past weeks. You know, the kind that follow you everywhere, that you can’t do anything about except wait for them to leave? I’m going through a transitional phase right now, and since I’ve always had a hard time being patient, it’s not always easy to wait for time to pass. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to move, to find us a little haven in Paris’ 10th arrondissement. Very sensibly, I announced to my friends that we should give ourselves six months to find the perfect place, but of course after a month I was already starting to curse the words "seloger.com", "leboncoin.fr" and most of all "particulier à particuler.fr". And since I already pictured us living somewhere else, I couldn’t stand anything in our home anymore, I didn’t want to go home in the 19th, or to clean up... you see what I’m saying?
  happy-friday-82-1
For a while I’ve felt like I’ve become more than an entrepreneur, I’m now the boss of a business. Make My Lemonade is still full of confetti and bobbins of thread, but above all it’s a team of rabid people, that must be guided towards a common goal: make tons of lemonade and live our passion! I think this subject deserves to be revisited, it’s worth writing an entire article on it! Thinking about this, I now find the website design a little too childish for the woman that I’m becoming, and for the creative studio that we’re in the process of building.
  happy-friday-82-7
I’m telling you, I’m going through a transitional phase over here! From the apartment to the blog, I don’t feel quite like I’m home anymore and I don’t know how it’s going to work out. But time will tell, version 2.0 of Make My Lemonade is being worked out and our application for our favorite apartment that we didn’t dare dream of was accepted (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH )!!! At the end of next week, I’ll be headed toward my craziest real estate and digital dreams! Like I’m literally ready at the starting gate, ready to set sail towards new lemony adventures! Hugs and kisses! Your Captain Lisa Sparrow.

Today I’m wearing a lip printed shirt, not fitted very well, from 3 suisses, but I love the motif, and I only wear it with a jacket anyways, too bad. My red “bouche mordue” Wanda trench coat, candy apple, finishes off any of my outfits. My comfy Samsoe Samsoe jeans, a great Danish brand, Falk x Manolo Blahnik socks and some classic Stan Smiths.

Thank you to the wonderful Olitax for the pictures!

LEMONADE STUDIO OPEN HOUSE II[:]

studio2
Hello my darlings! Great news, good news! The days are getting longer and we’re going to have another Lemonade Studio open house this Wednesday, February 24th from 5:30PM to 9PM! It’ll be so nice to see you again, I hope you’ll drop by to drink some lemonade with us and we’ll unveil the sneak preview of the new Make My Lemonade website! You might be thinking... again? Well, yes, every year I like a fresh coat of paint to freshen up the blog. But as you know, internet years are long and it’s like interior decor, I like to change it up often, like moving furniture to tell new stories. Anyways, you’ll see, but this time, we’ve done a little more than rearranging furniture... The new version of the website will look much more mature with color being a priority and lots of space just for you! There’ll be a Community page, for those “SOS” sewing situations, with a photo gallery to share your creations! A sort of sexy forum is possible, I promise, and it’s almost ready... Feel free to bring along your Wear Lemonade creations during the open house evening! We’ll have a corner for photo shoots, with a real studio and a nice colored background, but away from prying eyes so that those who are a bit shy will feel comfortable. We’d like to show off your work on the new Community page... We can’t wait for the new site, like we need fresh air, color and sunshine! It’ll be online at the end of the month, until then, see you soon for an amazing city guide! See you Wednesday, February 24th at the studio, 80 rue du Faubourg SaintDenis, from 5:30PM to 9PM! Get directions by subscribing to our newsletter, we’ll send you all the entry codes during the day. Hugs and kisses, don’t forget!

LIMONCELLO GENOVESI[:]

make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-genovese-recipe-3
Happy Sunday everyone! Today’s Foodie day, I think I’m going to try to make everything in this post rhyme with ‘ie’. No, just kidding, I’m not going to get started, otherwise I don’t think I could ever stop! I’d like to share this Genovese recipe with you, I’m crazy about this Sicilian pastry. I found this recipe in an old Italian cookbook, I’ve made it many times and changed it up since it was too sugary... have a genovese and a coffee and you’ll never leave your couch... I know, it’s pretty fattening, I couldn’t resist the sugar and butter either, but believe me it’s much better this way. I plan on going back to my bikini friendly recipes soon but honestly, this time of the year makes me want to bundle up in a blanket and munch on sugar, rather than eating healthy vegetables. Stay tuned...
make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-genovese-recipe-
For about 10 lemon Genovesi:
  • 240g of T55 flour
  • 80g of sugar
  • 100g of butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
And for the cream:
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 50g sugar
  • 250g milk
  • 20g cornstarch
  • Zest from half a lemon
  • A tablespoon of limoncello
And for the topping you’ll need powdered sugar!

make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-genovese-recipe-1
  1. Start by working the flour, sugar and butter with your fingertips, until it starts to crumble. Add the egg yolks, one at a time, then a little bit of cold water. Keep working the dough until thoroughly mixed, don’t add too much cold water, otherwise it’ll become sticky. Make a ball and roll it up in plastic wrap and chill 30 minutes in the fridge.
make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-genovese-recipe-2While the dough is chilling, prepare the lemon cream. Add cornstarch to the milk and mix until completely dissolved. Pour the mix into a pot and heat on low, being careful not to boil it. Turn off the heat. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolk with the sugar, then add the milk and put everything back in the pot. On medium heat, constantly stir with a wooden spatula until the mixture thickens. Then add the limoncello and lemon zest. Let it completely cool. make-my-lemonade-diy-do-it-yourself-genovese-recipe-4 Get the dough out of the fridge and on a dry, floured surface, flatten it out with a rolling pin. I suggest you make long ovals. On one side of the oval, dollop a tablespoon full of lemon cream, then cover with the other side with dough, a little like ravioli. Press the sides of the genovese together, making a dome with the cream, with the help of a cookie cutter! Lay out your cookies on a baking pan covered with sulfurized paper and cook for 13 minutes at 210°C. The dough should be lightly browned on the sides. Take out of the oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar, serve warm and enjoy! Translated by Whitney Bolin[:]
